Privacy policy

BeanHopper (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the BeanHopper mobile app and beanhopper.app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use BeanHopper, we may collect:

• Account information — such as your email address, display name, username, profile photo, and sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or email link).
• Content you create — café visit logs, ratings, notes, photos, lists, comments, likes, and follow relationships.
• Location data — when you grant permission, your approximate or precise location to show nearby cafés on the map and improve discovery. We do not collect location in the background unless you explicitly allow it.
• Device and usage data — app version, device type, operating system, language, crash logs, and general usage events needed to operate and improve the service.
• Advertising identifiers — on supported devices, an advertising ID may be used to show ads and measure ad performance. You can limit tracking in your device settings and, where available, through in-app ad privacy choices.
• Push notification tokens — if you enable notifications, a device token so we can send alerts about activity you care about.
• Waitlist email — if you join our website waitlist, the email address you submit.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

• Provide and maintain your account and social features
• Show cafés on the map and personalize your experience
• Send notifications you opt into
• Display ads that help keep the app free
• Moderate content, enforce our terms, and respond to reports
• Improve reliability, fix bugs, and understand how the app is used
• Contact waitlist subscribers when the app launches

Location data

Location is used to power map-based café discovery. You can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings at any time. Some features may be limited without location access.

Advertising

BeanHopper uses Google AdMob to show ads. Ad partners may collect or receive device identifiers and usage data to deliver and measure ads. Where required, we ask for your consent before personalized advertising. You can manage ad privacy choices in the app’s Settings when available, and limit ad tracking in iOS Settings or Android Settings.

Third-party services

We rely on trusted providers to run BeanHopper, including:

• Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, analytics, and crash reporting
• Google AdMob — advertising
• Apple Sign In / Google Sign In — account sign-in
• Google Maps (Android) and Apple Maps (iOS) — map display
• OpenStreetMap, Nominatim, Photon, Overpass — café and location data
• Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Unsplash — café images and metadata

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. OpenStreetMap-derived café data stored by BeanHopper is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) on request.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us operate the app, when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or with your direction (for example, content you choose to make public to other users).

Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data as described below.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
• Port your data in a usable format, where applicable

To delete your account or request a copy of your data, email us at support@beanhopper.app from the address linked to your account, or use in-app account deletion when available. We will verify your request and respond within a reasonable time.

California and European users may have additional rights under CCPA/CPRA and GDPR. Contact us to exercise them.

Children

BeanHopper is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us data.

International transfers

We may process data in countries other than where you live, including the United States, where our infrastructure providers operate. We take steps designed to protect your information consistent with this policy.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of BeanHopper after changes means you accept the updated policy.
